Campaign for ME/CFS and FM Services in Berkshire

The Reading Area ME Support Group and the West Berks ME & FM Group are working together to help fulfil the similar unmet needs of all their members. The Reading & Wokingham Fibromyalgia Support Groups are now joining this campaign.

The campaign is needed because:

  • There are no specialist services for either ME/CFS or FM in Berkshire - this is a huge unmet need.
  • A Pilot scheme for ME/CFS was promised but never started.
  • The Berkshire Priority statement on CFS has been due for renewal for 4 years, but especially since the publication of NICE Guideline 53 on CFS/ME in August 2007.
  • There is no Priority Statement on FM.
  • ME/CFS and FM are both neurological conditions, so they should be included as part of the Berkshire West PCT’s Commissioning Strategy which lists neurological conditions as a priority.
  • They are now the only neurological conditions with no specialist services in Berkshire.
