I’ve always been very sceptical of the claims made about probiotic yogurt drinks and tend to suggest that if someone wants to try probiotics, they should get them in capsule form from a healthfood store as they have the added benefits of: more active bacteria and more strains of good bacteria than the yogurts; no dairy – many people take probiotics for IBS and other GI upsets, yet dairy is a common IBS trigger; and no sugar – if you’re taking probiotics for yeast infections, then why take them with sugar that feeds the yeast?
Danone is now being sued over its claims about its yogurts. See the article on yogurt over at Dr Val and the Voice of Reason for more info about the case and about yogurts.
