The nominees for the 2007 Medical Weblog Awards have been announced over at medGadget. The categories are as follows:

  • Best medical weblog – I’m torn between Aetiology and butyoudontlooksick.com, although I’m not sure bydls belongs in that category.
  • Best New Medical Weblog (established in 2007) – I think Prudence, M.D. is my favourite of the few I know in this category. I’ll certainly be checking out the rest.
  • Best Literary Medical Weblog – Two of my favourites are nominated in this category: A Chronic Dose and In Sickness and In Health.
  • Best Clinical Sciences Weblog - Aetiology is also nominated in this category.
  • Best Health Policies/Ethics Weblog – I don’t know many of these, as they are mostly American blogs and so concentrate on the US health system which is of less interest to me than the UK system. More exposure of UK MedBlogs is needed!
  • Best Medical Technologies/Informatics Weblog – not sure who’d I’d vote for out of this lot, but atm Dr. Wes is the only one already on my Feeds list.
  • Best Patient’s Blog – THREE of my favourites are nominated in this category: ChronicBabe.com, A Chronic Dose and In Sickness and In Health, but – as with butyoudontlooksick.com - I’m not sure ChronicBabe.com fits in this category, especially as it had multiple patients writing on it.

The generous folks at ScrubsGallery.com are providing winners with some seriously exciting prizes this year. The winner of the 2007 Best Medical Weblog award gets a shiny new Amazon Kindle wireless reading device.

Winners in other categories, in addition to bragging rights, will be awarded with the latest edition of The Cambridge Illustrated History of Medicine (Cambridge University Press; New Ed edition).

Medgadget.com, as well as the individual blogs of our editors, are not eligible to participate in the awards.

Voting for the awards will be open to all, but you will only be able to vote once. (No hacking or cookie manipulation will be tolerated — only one vote for each category from a particular IP address.). I believe voting starts on January 8th.
